Challenging Behaviour

At Together-A-Part, we understand that what’s often labelled as "challenging behaviour" in children is, in fact, a communication; an outward expression of an internal experience.

We also recognise that children, like adults, need the skills and tools to learn how to identify and regulate their feelings so that they can develop the skills that will help them in social environments.

Rooted in our commitment to trauma-informed, attachment-aware practice, we view these behaviours not as problems to be fixed, but as invitations to connect more deeply, to understand the story behind the struggle.

A therapeutic approach to behaviour recognises that all children, especially those who have experienced relational trauma, loss, or disrupted care, require safety, co-regulation, and attuned support. Rather than relying on traditional reward and consequence models, we work with caregivers and professionals to build compassionate, consistent responses that honour the child’s inner world while setting healthy, connected boundaries.

Through 1-1 sessions, group work, reflective supervision and trainingTogether-A-Part offers guidance on how to support children with curiosity, empathy, and relational safety at the core—empowering adults to meet behaviour not with control, but with connection.

Beyond behaviour: Advanced therapeutic training that helps carers and professionals navigate the intricate landscape of trauma and SEND.
